23 April - Wonderful Wet–in-wet Faces.
New! [Watercolour/fluid media. Beginners/improvers]
Faces and portraits continue throughout art to inspire us, they connect us to who we are, capture beauty and history and allow us to flex our creative muscles as we find our own way of portraying features and that which makes us,us.
Reminding ourselves of the general proportions of a face and the specifics to watch out for, we can then have fun letting the wet-in–wet paint or ink swirl and gather, pool and bloom as we encourage the ‘happy accidents’ others avoid. Resulting in beautiful, vibrant, sometimes edgy, unique images that owe a nod to Roger Dean [of Yes songs covers] who Liana studied briefly with at Bath Art gallery.
This, as they say, is something completely different and has a lot of scope for personal interpretation and style. Come and add to your skills repertoire with this fascinating approach to faces.
Please see materials list here in good time!
Additional information and materials specific to this workshop:
Watercolours will work best [see above colours, tubes are easiest for this but not essential ] but inks and watery acrylics will work too.
Biggish soft brushes say, size 12 upwards are best for big washes [so a palette that takes big puddles]. Definetely 140lb /300grm watercolour paper , tape and board to take these washes. I recommend rough for extra effects. We will work in sizes a4 & a3 so A3 paper is best.
Feel free to bring images of faces you like from magazines and I will have some.
Please book early to avoid disappointment and help us plan. Thankyou!
All students are invited to join Liana’s free Artist’s Circle.
Past students say ’fun, clearly taught and packed with value’.
