Following four and five star reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022, Cecil Beaton’s Diaries commences a series of touring dates, prior to a London showing in summer 2023.

For the first time ever, the diaries of photographer and stylist Sir Cecil Beaton are dramatised for the stage, to accompany his most iconic and lesser-seen photographs and designs.

Beaton’s photographs showed his versatility; his diaries exposed the cost. Even his triumphant designs for My Fair Lady never stopped his doubts. And his passion for Greta Garbo found fulfilment only in his writing. Blisteringly funny and at times deeply moving, with appearances ranging from the Queen Mother and Elizabeth Taylor to Churchill and Capote, the diaries paint a self-portrait of the 20th century’s most compelling dandy.

The diaries are adapted and performed by Richard Stirling, whose recent credits as an actor include appearances in Bridgerton and The Man who Fell to Earth.

Accompanying Cecil Beaton's words onstage are almost 100 of his most iconic images, some world-famous, others rarely seen. These are projected in large format onto the screen onstage during the course of the show.

The images comprise portraits from Vogue and Conde Nast, as well as of the Royal Family, of his work in the Middle and Far East during WWII and of course of many stars with whom he worked in his Broadway and Hollywood years.

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes
